Forio, one of the six towns of the island, is home to Ischia Thermae, a company founded by a local family who own thermal mud-pits used in beauty treatments and therapies, located on the north-western slopes of Mount Epomeo, close to the historic centre and the tourist harbour.

Ischia Thermae is the oldest cosmetics laboratory on the island, launched in 1892, producing cosmetics made from thermal mud according to the ancient institution of the “Antica Fabbrica di Cosmetici” (Ancient Cosmetic’s Factory), using a mix of thermal water, mud and other natural ingredients, producing mud treatments ideal for both beauty and therapeutic purposes.

Today, Ischia Thermae produces a wide range of face and body cosmetics, with base ingredients of thermal water, local island mud and natural ingredients, with renowned exfoliating and purifying properties and produces a range of popular face and body masks.

Preparation techniques are being constantly improved and researched. Ischia Thermae holds a philosophy which respects the origins of the cosmetic’s base ingredients and also the island’s features as a thermal spa. At the spa centres, where the prodigious thermal waters are used in the numerous thermal and mud treatments for the face and body, Ischia Thermae cosmetics are featured where clients can both purchase the products and enjoy treatments.
