Nitrodi

Barano d'Ischia

Details

Fonte di Nitrodi is one of the oldest thermal springs on the island of Ischia and has been in use as far back as the 1st century AD when they were considered sacred by Apollo. In 1759, farmers digging for trenches for vines, discovered twelve marble images dedicated to the Nymphs of Nitrodes who apparently resided by the therapeutic springs (now on display at the National Museum of Naples) which date back to the 1st century and 3rd century.

The therapeutic properties of the water at the Nitrodi springs have been acknowledged by the Ministry of Health by Decree 3509 dated 9 October, 2003 and classified as hypothermal (28°) natural mineral water (bicarbonate-sulphate-alkaline-earthy).

Its main properties include sodium, calcium, potassium, chlorine, sulphur and carbon. - As a drink, Nitrodi water regulates water retention, helps to eliminate uric acid and stimulates kidney function; it also reacts against the production of hydrochloric acid and helps in the healing of gastritis, gastroduodenitis (inflammation of the stomach and duodenum) and gastroduodenitis ulcers.

- Applied externally, either by bathing, showering or applied directly, skin is smooth, healthy, soft and luminous and helps to heal injuries, cuts, boils, varicose veins, sores and scars.

- Whether used internally or externally, the waters are also effective against arthritic ailments.
